Dawn Silva has also written an autobiography aptly titled, ‘The funk Queen‘, now available for purchase.
The book is a comprehensive, 544-paged recollection of her life, and offers an honest, exploratory look at her formative years in Sacramento during the mid-50s and 60s, her time with the Black Panthers in the 70s, as well as her significant contributions to the funk genre with Parliament–Funkadelic, and as a solo artist.
Silva’s book is described as a masterpiece that not only serves as a detailed account of her dynamic and influential life and career, but also as a cautionary tale about the male-dominated music industry’s own harsh realities, especially for women.
